Shimla, Jan 9 (NationPress) - The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, announced on Friday that the government is committed to providing permanent housing for qualifying impoverished families currently residing in 'kutcha' houses.
He emphasized that secure housing is a fundamental need and a social right for every citizen, underlining that the government is taking substantial steps toward achieving this goal. During a high-level review meeting of the Panchayati Raj Department, CM Sukhu noted that the government’s aim extends beyond simply constructing houses; it is about ensuring a dignified standard of living for underprivileged families.
“We are also focusing on essential services such as basic amenities, sanitation, clean drinking water, and job opportunities,” he stated. CM Sukhu expressed the intent to prioritize filling vacancies in the Panchayati Raj Department, especially for Junior Engineers in panchayats, to enhance the department's efficiency.
The state government is placing significant emphasis on the social empowerment sector. With a vision of integrating the marginalized, overlooked, and weaker sections of society into the mainstream, numerous welfare schemes are being effectively executed, he added.
Officers have been directed to conduct regular evaluations of the progress concerning various schemes, with CM Sukhu clarifying that any negligence or delays will not be tolerated. He reiterated that the government’s primary focus is on public welfare, aiming to deliver developmental benefits to the most disadvantaged individuals in society, embodying the essence of 'systemic change'.
