Importance of Population Stability: RSS Leader's Remarks Ignite Political Discourse

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Mohan Bhagwat's recent comments emphasizing the importance of addressing a diminishing fertility rate have triggered a conversation throughout political circles.

Bhagwat recommended that couples should aim to have at least three children, expressing concerns over India's decreasing Total Fertility Rate (TFR). He cautioned that if the TFR of a society drops below 2.1, it could face extinction.

While some political factions supported his views, others criticized them as outdated.

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi mockingly questioned the proposal, asking, "What incentives will he provide for parents who choose to have more children? Will he offer ₹1,500 to those who comply?"

The Congress party also denounced his comments, labeling them harmful to India's advancement.

The BJP and Shiv Sena rallied behind Bhagwat's statements, contending that he was raising a legitimate issue concerning demographic stability.

In an interview with IANS, Jharkhand BJP President Babulal Marandi dismissed Owaisi's critique, affirming, "Bhagwat merely suggested that having 2-3 children is essential for population stability. This is supported by reports."

He further criticized Owaisi, stating, "His comments reflect a lack of understanding and are merely opposition for opposition's sake."

BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi underscored the significance of addressing population imbalance, noting, "Population instability is detrimental to any nation."

"Certain communities are expanding, while others are in decline. For instance, the Parsi community's numbers are dwindling. Achieving population equilibrium is vital for the welfare of all groups," he communicated to IANS.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Shaina NC defended Bhagwat, stating that his comments were based on demographic principles.

"What did Mohan Bhagwat articulate? He mentioned that if a family has three children, the population crisis can be mitigated," she conveyed to IANS.

"If the RSS leader expresses such viewpoints, it is rooted in demographic science. Those in the Opposition, who are discussing population stability, are merely engaging in polarizing politics," she continued.

"The statement was grounded in demographic data, highlighting that while some communities are underrepresented, others are thriving. To ensure a nation's safety, education, and self-sufficiency, he advocated for families to have three children; there is nothing inappropriate about this," she concluded.
