New Delhi, March 19 (NationPress) India has condemned the recent assaults on energy facilities throughout the Gulf region, labeling them as "extremely troubling". The Indian government emphasized that such actions will only exacerbate an already precarious global energy landscape.

In a statement, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated India’s prior stance advocating against the targeting of civilian infrastructure, including energy resources in the area. He stated, "The recent attacks on energy facilities in various parts of the Gulf are extremely troubling and will only serve to further destabilize an already precarious global energy scenario. These actions are intolerable and must come to an end."

Multiple reports have suggested that the rising assaults on oil and gas infrastructures in the Persian Gulf are escalating tensions in the US-Israel conflict with Iran, posing a significant threat to global energy supplies.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump remarked that the United States was unaware of Israel’s military action against Iran’s South Pars gas field. He cautioned Tehran of severe repercussions if it "recklessly" targets Qatar again, following Iran's attack on Qatar’s LNG facility in response to the earlier strike.

Iran has indicated to regional nations that several energy assets are now considered "legitimate targets" after the incident at South Pars, which is recognized as the world’s largest natural gas reserve, shared between Iran and Qatar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, regarding the evolving situation in West Asia, expressing shared concerns over recent developments.

PM Modi reiterated India’s strong condemnation of the assaults on Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that ensuring safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is of utmost importance.

Earlier today, PM Modi also connected with French President Emmanuel Macron to deliberate on the West Asian situation and the urgent requirement for de-escalation, advocating for a return to dialogue and diplomacy.

Point of View

The situation in the Gulf is alarming. Attacks on energy infrastructure not only threaten regional stability but also pose serious risks to global energy supplies. A proactive diplomatic approach is essential to navigate these tensions and ensure the safety of energy trade routes.
