Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) Policymakers and industry specialists have underscored the significance of enhanced collaboration between India and the EU in areas such as research, innovation, standards, and testing to facilitate the shift towards sustainable and connected mobility systems, as detailed in a recent official statement.
The strategic partnership between India and the European Union is being strengthened under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), where increasing cooperation in green and clean energy technologies is significantly contributing to sustainable mobility, resilient innovation ecosystems, and future-ready industrial collaborations.
As part of this initiative, the second India-EU Workshop on Electric Vehicle (EV) charging technologies took place at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy, from March 15-17.
This workshop was collaboratively organized by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (OPSA) to the Government of India and the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) of the European Commission, in conjunction with JRC, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and the EU Delegation to India.
The event convened policymakers, technical experts, standards organizations, testing and research institutions, and industry representatives from both India and the EU to discuss strategies for creating harmonized, interoperable, and future-ready EV charging ecosystems.
The agenda featured updates on policies and standards, strategic insights from the industry, technical discussions on megawatt charging systems, vehicle-to-grid integration, bidirectional charging, and wireless power transfer, complemented by tours of JRC’s EV and smart grid testing facilities.
Dr. Rakesh Kaur, Adviser/Scientist-‘G’ at OPSA, emphasized the critical role of India-EU cooperation in establishing trustworthy, interoperable, and future-ready charging ecosystems essential for a clean mobility transition.
Nienke Buisman, Head of Unit for International Cooperation at DG RTD EC, along with Dr. Christian Thiel, Head of Unit (Senior) at JRC, reiterated the necessity for deeper collaboration between India and the EU in research, innovation, standards, and testing to facilitate the transition towards sustainable and connected mobility systems.
