New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) - The United States and India have reached a significant milestone by finalizing an interim trade agreement that reduces US tariffs on Indian products to 18 percent. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar remarked on Saturday that this framework for an Interim Agreement is set to cultivate a mutually advantageous trade partnership between India and the United States.
In a post on the social media platform X, EAM Jaishankar stated, “The framework for an Interim Agreement will realize a mutually beneficial India-US trade partnership.”
He emphasized that the framework aims to provide enhanced market access and foster additional opportunities for Indian exporters.
“The framework will ensure greater market access and opportunities for our exporters. New horizons have opened that will further promote 'Make in India',” he added.
Prime Minister Modi also praised the development, describing it as ‘great news’ for both nations.
In a statement on social media, PM Modi said, “Great news for India and the USA! We have agreed on a framework for an Interim Trade Agreement between our two great nations. I thank President Trump for his personal commitment to robust ties between our countries.”
He noted that this framework showcases the “growing depth, trust, and dynamism” of the India-US partnership and will reinforce the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

This framework will also fortify resilient and trusted supply chains and contribute to global growth. Earlier that day, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal remarked that the trade agreement will help “India and the US remain focused on collaborating to deepen economic cooperation, reflecting our shared commitment to sustainable growth for our communities and businesses.”
“This will unlock a $30 trillion market for Indian exporters, particularly MSMEs, farmers, and fishermen. The surge in exports is expected to generate lakhs of new job opportunities for our women and youth,” the minister concluded.
