Indian Bank Provides Rs 151 Crore Loan to Empower Women in Three Districts of West Bengal

Kolkata, Nov 28 (NationPress) Indian Bank, on Thursday, granted loans totaling Rs 151 crore across three districts in West Bengal, aiming to economically empower women under the self-help group (SHG) and Lakhpati Didi Yojana.

The districts benefiting from this loan program include West Midnapore, East Midnapore, and Jhargram.

A remarkable 513 women attended this unique loan fair held at Pradyata Smriti Bhavan in Medinipur town within West Midnapore district. Participants varied in their entrepreneurial pursuits, with some involved in poultry farming, while others produced garments for school children using sewing machines. Additionally, numerous women are engaged in jewelry making, as well as the production of incense sticks, mat sticks, and soap, among other businesses.

The attendees expressed their gratitude for this initiative, viewing it as a significant opportunity to enhance their businesses and achieve self-reliance.

"I am part of an SHG comprising ten women. We have received a loan of Rs 20 lakh from the Krishnanagar branch of Indian Bank in Nadia district. This loan has greatly benefited us, enabling our business to flourish," stated Namita Rana, a participant at the loan fair.

The women also extended their heartfelt thanks to the officials and staff of Indian Bank for their support.

During the event, Indian Bank's general manager Mithilesh Kumar emphasized that this initiative not only aims to enhance the economic standing of women but also contributes to societal development.

"Women who are financially independent will steer society towards a new direction," he remarked.

It has been reported that loans were distributed through 85 branches in the districts of Jhargram, East Midnapore, and West Midnapore. An official from Indian Bank noted that this initiative is designed to assist women in boosting their small businesses and improving the economic condition of their families.
