New Delhi, Sep 2 (NationPress) India’s journey in the semiconductor sector is accelerating rapidly, with industry experts expressing optimism that the nation could transform into a global leader in this field well before 2047. During an exclusive interview with IANS at SEMICON India 2025, prominent industry figures emphasized the country's vast talent pool, favorable policies, and international collaborations as pivotal elements propelling this evolution.

Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International), remarked that India is on an exponential growth trajectory within the semiconductor ecosystem. “If the current momentum continues, India could become a semiconductor powerhouse well before 2047,” he stated to IANS.

Highlighting the necessity of global interconnections in chip production, Manocha noted that India must identify its “sweet spot” within the value chain, initially focusing on assembly and testing, while larger wafer fabrication plants are anticipated in the upcoming years.

He also supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that “India’s smallest chip will bring the biggest change,” emphasizing that semiconductors are fundamental to contemporary life.

Anku Jain, Managing Director of MediaTek India, characterized SEMICON India 2025 as a “crucial milestone” in the nation’s pursuit of developing indigenous capabilities while enhancing global partnerships.

“With India’s first locally manufactured chips expected to hit the market by late 2025 and 10 sanctioned fabrication projects worth ₹1.60 lakh crore, India is not merely constructing an industry; it is democratizing technology access for billions,” he noted.

Jain further added that India’s expanding market, substantial R&D talent pool, and encouraging ecosystem position the country as a significant market for MediaTek.

Dr. Manoj Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor of Gati Shakti University, remarked that while India is still in the nascent stages of semiconductor manufacturing, rapid advancements are underway.

“In the next 10-20 years, India will establish a formidable global presence. With 20% of the world’s design talent already in place and backing from initiatives like DLI, indigenous chip design and production will receive a significant boost,”

he asserted.

Dr. Choudhary expressed confidence that India’s workforce, skills, and policy support will enable the country to emerge as a global semiconductor hub.

Collectively, these voices illustrate a unified belief that India’s semiconductor industry is on a historic path—one that could position the nation as a crucial global player far sooner than anticipated.
