UAE Air Defense Successfully Stops Iranian Missiles: Debris Hits Dubai Marina Tower
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Abu Dhabi, March 9 (NationPress) - Debris from an intercepted Iranian missile fell on a tower in Dubai Marina, causing smoke to billow from the building's facade and creating momentary alarm in the vicinity.
Authorities swiftly confirmed that the incident was contained and no injuries occurred.
Shortly after, Dubai's government acknowledged the event via a post on X, detailing that the damage resulted from debris after the air defense systems successfully intercepted the incoming threat.
"Authorities have confirmed that debris from a successful interception led to a minor incident on the facade of a tower in Dubai Marina. The situation is under control, and no injuries have been reported," the official media account of the Dubai government stated on X.
Previously, the UAE Defence Ministry had announced that its air defense systems were actively engaged against incoming missile and drone threats originating from Iran.
"Air defenses are currently addressing incoming missile and drone threats from Iran," the ministry noted in a post on X.
"Sounds reported are due to the Air Defense Systems intercepting missiles and drones," the statement elaborated.
During the incident, a total of 16 ballistic missiles were detected. Of these, 15 were successfully intercepted, while the remaining missiles landed in the sea. Additionally, authorities monitored 121 drones approaching the UAE, with 119 destroyed before they reached their targets.
Amid escalating tensions, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan addressed the nation on Abu Dhabi TV, marking his first public remarks since the conflict escalated.
He stated, "The country is currently in a state of war. We will come out stronger than before."
In the meantime, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologized to neighboring nations for attacks conducted during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Nonetheless, he asserted that Iran would not initiate further strikes unless provoked.
"I apologize on my own behalf and on behalf of Iran to the neighboring countries that faced attacks from us. The interim leadership council decided that no more attacks will occur on neighboring nations, and no missiles will be fired unless an attack on Iran is initiated from those countries," Pezeshkian expressed during a broadcast on Iranian state TV.
In response to former U.S. President Donald Trump's call for unconditional surrender, Pezeshkian stated that Iran's adversaries "must take their demand for the unconditional surrender of the Iranian people to their graves."
The recent developments follow coordinated airstrikes by the U.S. and Israel across Iran on February 28, subsequent to stalled nuclear negotiations and allegations that Tehran had resumed nuclear activities.
These strikes, dubbed “Operation Epic Fury,” targeted several cities in Iran, including the capital Tehran. The operation resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with family members, further heightening regional tensions.
