New Delhi, April 20 (NationPress) Indian security forces have identified a recent increase in the activities of the media arm of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, with a notable emphasis on India.

While the group's propaganda targeting Europe and the United States has called for significant attacks during major global events like the FIFA World Cup, the messaging directed at India is focusing on inciting operatives to execute large-scale assaults.

An official from the Intelligence Bureau disclosed that the media channels of this group have been advocating for attacks in crowded areas. Concurrently, there are calls for financial contributions to bolster the Afghanistan-based Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP).

The official highlighted a rise in appeals for donations recently, noting a marked increase in fundraising initiatives this month. These contributions are often solicited under the term 'sadaqat', meaning charity, and are frequently requested in the form of cryptocurrency. Authorities believe these funds are being directed to support ISKP operations in Afghanistan.

The ISKP is also seen as capitalizing on the existing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Previously, intense pressure from the Taliban had inhibited its operations. However, the evolving situation in the region has provided the group with an opportunity to reorganize and re-establish its network.

Officials assert that the ISKP has managed to leverage the discord between Pakistan and Afghanistan to its benefit. The conflict has created a chance for the group to regain its footing after being constrained by the Taliban's actions. With the current focus diverted, the ISKP has utilized this moment to restructure and expand its network.

“This sense of urgency explains the intensified fundraising efforts,” another official remarked.

The organization seems to recognize that the favorable conditions in Afghanistan may not last indefinitely, prompting it to enhance its capabilities while the opportunity persists. As per officials, its propaganda, misinformation strategies, and fundraising campaigns are increasingly centered on India. They believe a significant attack could attract attention and bolster recruitment.

The concept of establishing a Caliphate in India, particularly positioning Jammu and Kashmir as its focal point, is being vigorously promoted through its propaganda. Authorities report that some individuals have been enticed by this narrative and are convinced that the ISKP can accomplish these objectives. To broaden its reach, the group has extended its presence across various social media platforms.

While false narratives are being widely shared online, calls for violence and financial support are communicated through encrypted channels. Agencies are meticulously tracking the Al-Azaim Foundation for Media Production, identified as a pivotal node in this information network. Officials characterize its operations as exceptionally organized, with content distributed in a multitude of languages. Messages are crafted in Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, Uzbek, Tajik, Turkish, Russian, Hindi, Malayalam, and English. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has further expanded its linguistic capabilities.

Officials report that the group has utilized AI to create misleading videos. In several instances, ordinary locations in India are portrayed as sites of communal strife, with visuals insinuating assaults on minority groups. Authorities suspect that these clips are aimed at inciting unrest. Recent content has grown increasingly aggressive in tone and is clearly directed at audiences in India.

In addition to the Al-Azaim Foundation for Media Production, the ISKP is also leveraging its Pashto-language publication, Khurasan Ghag, to push its narratives. This magazine is specifically designed for readers in South Asia.
