Jaipur, Nov 4 (NationPress) The driver of a speeding dumper, who is believed to have tragically crushed 26 individuals and caused injuries to many others in a devastating accident at Harmara, Jaipur, has been charged with culpable homicide.
According to police reports on Tuesday, seven of the 26 injured are in critical condition at the Trauma Centre of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital.
SHO (Harmara) Uday Singh Yadav is leading the investigation into this incident.
The driver in question, currently hospitalized, will face arrest upon his release, as confirmed by police officials.
The tragic event occurred around 1 p.m. on Monday near the Loha Mandi petrol pump on Road No. 14, when the dumper, speeding toward the highway, lost control.
Witnesses described how the dumper collided with pedestrians, two-wheelers, and cars over a span of 400 meters, leaving the area littered with wreckage and human remains.
In an FIR filed by complainant Digpratap Singh (26), a resident of Akera Dungar, it was reported that the driver recklessly struck multiple individuals and vehicles. Two of the victims remain unidentified. Eyewitnesses recounted the scene as “terrifying”, with body parts scattered across the road.
In response to the incident, DCP (Traffic) Sumit Mehrada suspended Traffic CI Rajkiran, ASI Rajpal Singh, and Constable Mahesh Kumar for negligence, as the dumper had illegally entered a no-entry area.
The dumper's driver, Kalyan Meena, from Viratnagar (Jaipur), was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Locals apprehended him at the scene and turned him over to the police.
Furthermore, families of the victims claimed that ambulance drivers demanded Rs 2,200 for transporting bodies to Niwai, stating that no free government service was available.
The District Collector pledged that any fees charged would be refunded and that action would be taken against the responsible officials.
Investigations revealed that approximately 1.5 km before the crash, the driver had an altercation with a car driver outside a petrol station. Ironically, the dumper bore a chilling message on its rear: “If you have the guts, pass; otherwise, endure.”
