Khunti (Jharkhand), Nov 15 (NationPress) - A significant number of individuals flocked to Ulihatu in Jharkhand, the revered birthplace of the renowned tribal leader Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, on Saturday to pay their respects on his 150th birth anniversary.
Among those present were Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, alongside various notable figures who participated in the main tribute event held at the Birsa Munda Complex in Ulihatu.
The dignitaries took the opportunity to meet with Birsa Munda’s descendants, presenting them with shawls and mementoes.
Speaking to the crowd, Governor Gangwar praised the bravery exhibited by Birsa Munda at a young age, highlighting his commitment to defending the homeland and maintaining tribal identity, which continues to motivate future generations.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his feelings of being “blessed” whenever he visits the birthplace of Birsa Munda, stating, “It was by adhering to the principles of ‘Dharti Aba’ that the arduous quest for a separate Jharkhand state finally came to fruition. We are determined to keep his ideals alive and progress forward.”
He emphasized that the state government is enacting numerous ambitious initiatives aimed at the comprehensive development of tribal and indigenous communities.
“Jharkhand has now been a state for 25 years. With the vigor of our youth, we are making tangible strides to position Jharkhand among the forefront of states. Significant advancements are being made in education, health, sports, tourism, and infrastructure. Our objective is to ensure prosperity reaches every household and to engage people in the development process,” he added.
Union Minister Jual Oram remarked that Birsa Munda’s contributions to the freedom struggle and his advocacy for tribal rights represent a vital chapter of India’s cultural history.
“It is a profound honor to stand on this sacred ground of Ulihatu. His principles and sacrifices will forever motivate us,” he noted.
Present at the ceremony were MLAs Vikas Singh Munda, Ramsurya Munda, Sudip Gudiya, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Birsa Munda’s descendant Sukhram Munda, along with a large number of villagers and officials.
Additionally, Jharkhand is commemorating the 25th anniversary of its establishment today. The state was formed on this day in 2000, carved from 18 districts of Bihar, becoming the 28th state of the Indian Union. The date was purposely chosen to align with the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
