Ranchi, Nov 15 (NationPress) Jharkhand is proudly commemorating the 25th anniversary of its establishment this Saturday with a spectacular state-level celebration at Morabadi Ground in the capital, Ranchi.

Numerous attendees, including distinguished guests, tribal representatives, schoolchildren, and performers, converged to enjoy a variety of cultural displays. Parallel festivities, parades, sports competitions, and community events are also being held throughout various districts.

Jharkhand was officially formed on this day in 2000, having been separated from 18 districts of Bihar, thus becoming the 28th state of India.

The date was purposefully chosen to align with the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, who is celebrated as a freedom fighter, social reformer, and tribal symbol.

His Ulgulan — a revolt against British oppression — continues to be a significant milestone in the fight for tribal identity and rights. Today also marks the 150th birth anniversary of Munda, which adds further depth to the celebrations.

The Bihar Assembly passed the resolution for a separate state on July 22, 1997. Three years later, on August 2, 2000, the Parliament ratified the Bihar Reorganisation Bill.

This initiative was propelled forward by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose administration laid the legislative groundwork for the newly formed state.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren conveyed his best wishes while honoring the legacy of Jharkhand’s tribal heroes — Birsa Munda, Sidho-Kanho, Phool-Jhano, and others.

He remarked that the past 25 years depict a journey of transformation and resilience. “Jharkhand has taken an inspiring route from struggle to stability, and from stability to prosperity,” he stated.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the next chapter of the state’s evolution would prioritize inclusive growth, enhanced infrastructure, and the protection of tribal communities’ rights and dignity.

He also called upon citizens to collaborate in “creating a future where Jharkhand stands as a beacon of progress, social justice, and cultural pride.”

Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, in his address, noted that Jharkhand’s milestone of 25 years serves as evidence of the state’s “illustrious accomplishments across various domains including agriculture, industry, sports, arts, and social welfare.”
