Mumbai, March 10 (NationPress) Jishnu Dev Varma, affiliated with the Manikya royal family of Tripura and previously serving as the Governor of Telangana, took the oath of office on Tuesday as the 22nd Governor of Maharashtra.
The oath was administered by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar at the Darbar Hall of Maharashtra Lok Bhavan in Mumbai.
Prominent figures including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar extended their warm wishes to the new Governor with bouquets.
Immediately following the ceremony, the Indian Navy honored the Governor with a ceremonial guard of honor.
After the election of State Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan to the position of Vice President of India on September 12, 2025, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat was assigned additional responsibilities for overseeing Maharashtra.
Earlier in the event, Chief Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal presented the appointment warrant issued by President Droupadi Murmu in both Hindi and English.
The ceremony commenced with the National Song Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem and the State Song, concluding with another rendition of Vande Mataram and the National Anthem played by the police band.
Prior to his Maharashtra role, Jishnu Dev Varma held the position of Governor of Telangana starting July 31, 2024. He also served as Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura from 2018 to 2023, overseeing the Finance, Rural Development, and Power portfolios.
In addition to his political career, Dev Varma is passionate about modern art, painting, and sculpture. He was the Convener of the Tripura chapter of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), where he coordinated activities across Northeast India. Furthermore, he is recognized as a writer and poet.
