Has LoP Narayanaswamy Accused Karnataka Congress of Aligning with Urban Naxals?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolar (Karnataka), Feb 11 (NationPress) The BJP has recently claimed that the Karnataka Congress has diverted from its democratic principles and is now cooperating with urban Naxals, rather than adhering to the constitutional framework established by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
During a media briefing, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, expressed these concerns. He contended that the roots of Naxalism in India trace back to the Communist ideology, which has faced broad rejection. He further asserted that the Congress party has also suffered a similar fate.
Narayanaswamy lambasted the Congress for its alleged alliance with urban Naxals, branding it a “Communist Congress urban Naxalite” entity.
He emphasized that in a federal structure, there should be mutual respect from the grassroots level of the Gram Panchayat up to the Prime Minister. He accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of unconstitutionally disrespecting the Prime Minister by labeling him a “coward.”
Narayanaswamy also criticized Minister Priyank Kharge, alleging that he too used the same derogatory term and claimed he wouldn't win even a Gram Panchayat election without his father's name accompanying his own.
Referring to Kolar as a sacred land, he noted that Congress MLC Naseer Ahmed, a local, had similarly insulted the Prime Minister, calling him a traitor. He argued that such insults indicate a failure to operate within constitutional bounds.
Narayanaswamy accused the Congress of adopting the demeanor of urban Naxalites following its alliance with Communists.
He mentioned that the Central government has endorsed the VB-G RAM G Act, which he characterized as legislation intended to bolster rural livelihoods.
He recounted the evolution of rural employment schemes, stating they have undergone numerous name changes over the years—from Rozgar Yojana to Mahatma Gandhi NREGA in 2009, which incorporated Mahatma Gandhi’s name.
Narayanaswamy alleged that prior administrations allowed for widespread corruption under the scheme, where manual labor meant for the impoverished was executed by machines. “Are machines the poor?” he asked rhetorically.
He further alleged that accounts were established in the names of the impoverished, with others retaining the debit cards, leading to significant financial misappropriation.
Narayanaswamy highlighted that in Srinivasapura, Kolar, the Lokayukta has opened 25 cases. He claimed incidents in Yadgir and Kalaburagi involved men dressed in sarees misappropriating funds intended for female beneficiaries, questioning why such occurrences were permitted.
He stated that instead of the guaranteed 100 days of work under MGNREGA, they have provided 125 days of employment. “Why should that trouble you?” he questioned. He noted that payments were previously delayed for months, whereas now they are processed within 7 to 14 days, asking why this should raise concerns.
