Bengaluru, May 29 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, expressed on Thursday that despite filing multiple complaints about his “detention” and an attempted assault in Chittapur, no actions have been initiated.
He claimed to have lodged his complaint with key officials including the Chief Minister, Home Minister, Chief Secretary, and the Director General and Inspector General of Police.
“I was held captive for five hours in Chittapur. My party’s members were obstructed from reaching me. My vehicle was vandalized with ink, and stones were amassed for a potential attack. I communicated directly with the Home Minister and the ADGP from the site and dialed the SP nearly ten times,” he recounted.
Despite the presence of the Additional SP during the five hours, no measures were undertaken against the individuals who harassed him, he added.
“After five hours, I was compelled to leave Chittapur. I traveled to Yadgir but had to cancel all scheduled events and returned to Bengaluru by train that same night,” he claimed.
Narayanaswamy also mentioned that Ambaraiah Ashtagi, a BJP leader who visited him in Chittapur, faced an assault. “His clothes were ripped and discarded. A complaint was lodged against him, resulting in his detention at the Tehsildar’s office. This situation led us to label it the ‘Republic of Kalaburagi’,” he stated.
Narayanaswamy recalled an incident when the current Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, was the Leader of the Opposition and faced similar harassment in Kodagu, where eggs were thrown at him. “We ensured he received full protection,” he emphasized.
The leader also pointed out that Dattatreya Shantappa Ikkalagi, a social worker honored with the Ambedkar Award from the Congress government, has filed a complaint against BJP MLC and Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Council, N. Ravikumar, over his comments directed at the Deputy Commissioner of Kalaburagi.
“He has lodged this complaint merely to settle the debt of the award,” he alleged.
“Did anyone insult Dattatreya, the complainant? Why was a police notice issued to Ravikumar? What is unfolding under this government? Ravikumar criticized the Deputy Commissioner, Minister Kharge, and other officials. In this context, a complaint was submitted under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, alleging that Ravikumar used a casteist slur,” Narayanaswamy stated.
“I, myself, belong to the SC community. Ravikumar did not refer to the DC as a Pakistani. Can this truly be categorized as an atrocity? Would calling Mallikarjun Kharge such a name also qualify as an atrocity?” he questioned.
The Chittapur assembly seat is held by Minister for RDPR, IT, and BT Priyank Kharge. Narayanaswamy has accused Priyank Kharge’s supporters of detaining him and attempting to assault him due to his criticism of Priyank Kharge.
Narayanaswamy referred to Priyank Kharge as a “dog” and criticized him for allegedly establishing a republic in Kalaburagi district.
