Bengaluru, May 29 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, expressed his discontent on Thursday regarding the lack of action following his complaints about his “detention” and alleged assault attempts in Chittapur.
He claimed that he submitted his grievances to the Chief Minister, Home Minister, Chief Secretary, and the Director General and Inspector General of Police.
“I was confined for five hours in Chittapur. Our party workers were obstructed from reaching me. Ink was thrown on my vehicle, stones were amassed, and there were preparations for pelting eggs and stones. I communicated directly with the Home Minister and the ADGP from the location and contacted the SP nearly ten times,” he stated.
Despite the presence of the Additional SP with him for five hours, Narayanaswamy noted that no action was taken against those who mistreated him.
“After five hours, I was compelled to leave Chittapur. I headed to Yadgir, had to cancel all engagements, and returned to Bengaluru by train that very night,” he alleged.
He further claimed that Ambaraiah Ashtagi, a BJP leader who visited him in Chittapur, was also assaulted. “His garments were ripped and discarded. A complaint was lodged against him, and he was detained at the Tehsildar’s office. Hence, we referred to this incident as the ‘Republic of Kalaburagi’,” he added.
Narayanaswamy recalled that during Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's tenure as the Leader of the Opposition, significant commotion ensued when eggs were thrown at him in Kodagu. “We had ensured his full protection,” he remarked.
He accused Dattatreya Shantappa Ikkalagi, a social worker who recently received the Ambedkar Award from the Congress government, of filing a complaint against BJP MLC and Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Council, N. Ravikumar, over his remarks regarding the Deputy Commissioner of Kalaburagi district.
“This complaint was filed merely to settle the award debt,” he asserted.
“Did anyone insult Dattatreya, the complainant? Why has a police notice been issued to Ravikumar? What is transpiring under this government? Ravikumar criticized the Deputy Commissioner, Minister Kharge, and other officials. Amidst this backdrop, a complaint was lodged under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act claiming that Ravikumar used casteist slurs,” Narayanaswamy remarked.
“I am a member of the SC community myself. Ravikumar did not refer to the DC as a Pakistani. Can this really be classified as an atrocity? If someone called Mallikarjun Kharge such, would that too be deemed an atrocity?” he questioned.
The Chittapur Assembly seat is held by Minister for RDPR, IT, and BT Priyank Kharge. Narayanaswamy accused supporters of Priyank Kharge of detaining him for hours and attempting to assault him due to his criticisms.
Narayanaswamy has referred to Priyank Kharge as a “dog” and criticized him for allegedly establishing a republic in the Kalaburagi district.
