Sunita Kejriwal on Court's Ruling: 'Truth Prevails'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) Following the Rouse Avenue Court's decision to discharge Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party and former Chief Minister of Delhi, his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, expressed her belief that truth prevails.
Sunita Kejriwal took to her social media platform, X, stating, "Regardless of how influential an individual may become, they cannot overshadow the power of Shiva. Truth always prevails."
In a significant ruling, the Rouse Avenue Court pointed out the lack of evidence against both leaders, offering them a substantial relief.
The court highlighted the necessity for an unbiased investigation to guarantee a just trial, remarking that the prosecution's claims were unsubstantiated. Concerning Manish Sisodia, the court noted that the CBI's charges were devoid of merit, no criminal conspiracy was established, and the prosecution failed to prove its case.
This ruling follows the court's reserved verdict on February 12, after thorough arguments from both the CBI and the defence.
In addition to Kejriwal and Sisodia, there were 21 other individuals implicated in the case. At the time of the allegations, Kejriwal was the Chief Minister of Delhi and Sisodia his deputy.
The CBI filed its initial charge sheet in 2022 and later submitted multiple supplementary charge sheets, alleging that around Rs 100 crore was paid by a 'south lobby' to manipulate the now-revoked excise policy to their advantage.
During the hearings, the CBI argued that the supposed criminal conspiracy should be evaluated as a whole, maintaining that there was enough evidence to charge all involved. However, the court deemed the prosecution's evidence insufficient to uphold the allegations, leading to the acquittal of both Kejriwal and Sisodia.
This judgment signifies a considerable legal relief for the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party, concluding a prominent investigation that has been under judicial review for several years.
Notably, Kejriwal was apprehended by the ED on March 21, 2024, and by the CBI on June 26, 2024, for involvement in money laundering and corruption cases.
The excise policy was annulled in 2022 after the Lieutenant Governor mandated a CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities and corruption related to its creation and implementation.
