Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 27 (NationPress) In a show of solidarity, opposition leaders came together on Friday to support former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia following a Delhi court's decision to provide them with relief in the excise policy case. AAP leader Sanjay Singh described the ruling as evidence that the allegations were part of a broader political scheme.
In a post on X, Singh stated: “The court has exonerated our leaders. It has been established that a malevolent conspirator is in control of the nation’s governance. This individual orchestrated a plan to tarnish the reputation of our country’s most esteemed and honest Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, and the highly capable and honest Education Minister, Manish Sisodia, alongside the exemplary party, Aam Aadmi Party.
Singh also expressed, “Our leaders endured hardship in prison. It’s time @narendramodi apologized to the nation.”
Various opposition figures reacted positively to the judgment.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, MP of Shiv Sena(UBT), shared on X: “They confronted falsehoods, propaganda, and a toxic political agenda, securing truth and justice. Kudos to @ArvindKejriwal ji and @msisodia ji!”
Meanwhile, Mahua Moitra, MP from Trinamool Congress, remarked: “Satyameva Jayate! BJP, heed this lesson while you can. Your deceitful tactics, your ED, your CBI—these puppets will crumble before the truth. Congratulations @ArvindKejriwal.”
The remarks followed the Rouse Avenue Court’s significant ruling, which offered considerable relief to Kejriwal and Sisodia in the prominent Delhi Liquor Excise Policy case, stating that there was insufficient evidence to support the charges against them.
The court highlighted the necessity of a fair investigation for a just trial, noting that the prosecution did not succeed in proving its case or demonstrating any criminal conspiracy.
Previously, both leaders were apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI concerning allegations of corruption and money laundering linked to the annulled excise policy. The CBI had submitted its initial charge sheet in 2022, followed by supplementary sheets, asserting that undue advantages were granted to particular liquor licensees. However, the court concluded that the evidence was inadequate to pursue charges against the accused.
This ruling represents a noteworthy political and legal victory for the Aam Aadmi Party, providing relief to its leadership after a prolonged legal struggle that had significantly influenced national politics over recent years.
