Mumbai, Oct 6 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Monday that the state government has established a committee aimed at developing a policy for green steel industries.
Maharashtra is at the forefront of solar panel manufacturing in India. The extensive efforts in this domain are set to foster a substantial 'green ecosystem'. Recognizing that green steel is an emerging sector, the government is forming a committee to devise a policy regarding it, Fadnavis stated following the 13th meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee for the Industries Department.
Among those present at the meeting were Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Industries Minister Dr. Uday Samant, and Industries Secretary P. Anbalagan.
This announcement follows the government’s initiative to transform Gadchiroli into a steel city.
Fadnavis indicated that funding has been allocated under the Collective Incentive Scheme for large and ultra-large industries in the agriculture and food processing sectors.
To mitigate the effects of the global tax structure changes on the textile industry in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions, electricity tariff concessions will remain unaffected by industrial subsidies. Additionally, amendments will be made concerning captive process vendors in these classified areas.
He mentioned that since Khed taluka in the Pune district has been designated as “A” and “C” classified areas, the cabinet sub-committee decided to extend the benefits of “C” classified areas to Khed Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and Khed Developers Ltd M/s OP Mobility Exterior India Pvt Ltd.
“Approximately 90 percent of employees at this company are women, contributing to local employment in the Pune district. Thus, the cabinet sub-committee has conferred major project status to this company,” he added.
Furthermore, he instructed that the committee established for green steel consider providing incentives to projects under the Thrust Sector Policy.
This announcement is significant, particularly following his recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he outlined the state government’s vision for developing Gadchiroli as a new steel city and promoting green steel production there. He also presented the Maharashtra Defence Corridor plan to PM Modi.
“I highlighted the establishment of a defense manufacturing ecosystem in Maharashtra, which promises to enhance defense production, boost the economy, and create jobs. I demonstrated that this corridor can be realized in three segments: the first in Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar; the second in Nashik and Dhule; and the third in Nagpur, Wardha, and Amravati,” he noted.
He also introduced a roadmap for the Maharashtra Defence Corridor.
