He emphasized that this landmark initiative will facilitate the effective application of women's reservation in both the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Indian democracy.
In a correspondence addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shinde articulated that this move transcends mere legislative adjustment; it represents a transformational shift aimed at ensuring women's substantial involvement in governance and national development.
“This initiative epitomizes your steadfast dedication to justice, equality, and the empowerment of women, which will fortify the pillars of our inclusive democracy. Under your guidance, the Government of India has enacted numerous bold initiatives to elevate women's status. Programs such as the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, Mission Shakti, and Poshan Abhiyaan have all contributed to positive transformations in the socio-economic conditions of women, granting them dignity, opportunities, and security,” said Shinde.
Additionally, Shinde acknowledged that under PM Modi's leadership, the nation has reached historic achievements, including the abrogation of Article 370 for national unity and the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
“Your endeavors to enhance national security and restore India's global standing are recognized worldwide. In the current unpredictable global environment, your unwavering leadership instills confidence and offers new direction for India,” he remarked.
“On behalf of the citizens of Maharashtra, I address you as the Beloved Brother of the Country (Desh ke Laadle Bhai) and extend heartfelt greetings from approximately six crore mothers, sisters, and daughters in the state,” he concluded.
Shinde also noted that motivated by PM Modi's vision, the Maharashtra government has made significant strides toward women's empowerment at the grassroots level.
“We have launched several key initiatives to support women, including the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, which offers direct financial aid to women from disadvantaged backgrounds. Other measures include a 50% fare reduction for women in state transport buses, free higher education for girls, and financial support of up to Rs 1,01,000 through the Lek Ladki Yojana. Initiatives like Lakhpati Didi and the Annapurna Yojana, which provides three free gas cylinders annually, aim to empower women socio-economically,” Shinde stated.
Furthermore, he remarked, “The proposed amendment to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam is a crucial component in this continuum. As a dedicated member of the Shiv Sena and the National Democratic Alliance, I fully endorse this reform. We are committed to realizing your vision of a robust, inclusive, and developed India. Once again, I extend my sincere gratitude for your unwavering efforts in nation-building.”
