Bengaluru, Sep 23 (NationPress) A man who brutally stabbed his second wife 11 times in broad daylight, leading to her tragic demise, has turned himself in to the police in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The suspect is identified as 43-year-old Lohitashwa, also referred to as Lokesh, hailing from Sira town in Tumakuru district.
This horrific incident unfolded on Monday in front of Rekha's 12-year-old daughter.
DCP (West) S. Girish revealed on Tuesday that the accused voluntarily presented himself to the police and has been charged under Section 103 of the BNS Act. He claimed that he was motivated by suspicions regarding his wife's fidelity, a claim that currently lacks evidence.
As per police reports, the victim, Rekha, a divorcee and mother of two daughters, had recently entered into matrimony with Lokesh, marking his second marriage as well. Rekha, who was employed at a private firm, had entrusted her younger daughter to her parents while living with her elder one. Lokesh opposed this arrangement, insisting that she send her elder daughter away, which Rekha refused.
Furthermore, Lokesh's jealousy escalated as he suspected Rekha of having extramarital affairs at her workplace. On that fateful Monday, while Rekha was at a bus stop near Sunkadakatte in Bengaluru, Lokesh followed her and stabbed her 11 times in critical areas such as the chest, right in front of her daughter. Despite attempts by onlookers to intervene, he threatened them and continued his savage attack.
After the assault, he hurled the knife into the crowd and fled the scene.
Initial investigations indicated that Lokesh, a cab driver, and Rekha, originally from Channarayapatna in Hassan, had been acquaintances through mutual friends while working at the same company. They had been in a live-in relationship for about a year and a half before recently getting married.
The couple had been residing in a rented accommodation in Sunkadakatte, where frequent disputes arose over Rekha's elder daughter. On the day of the murder, a heated argument occurred at home. Following the confrontation, Rekha left the house with her daughter, leading Lokesh to pursue her and commit the horrific act.
The Kamakshipalya police are actively pursuing the investigation.
