Kolkata, March 29 (NationPress) A man has been apprehended for the horrific murder of his wife in the presence of their young daughter in South Kolkata, as confirmed by police officials on Sunday.

The tragic event unfolded in the Kasba neighborhood early in the morning, where the suspect was captured attempting to escape after the brutal act.

The individual in custody is identified as Binod Singh. Residents claim that the accused had a pattern of returning home under the influence of alcohol, often demanding money from his wife, Swapna Singh. Allegations from neighbors indicate that he would resort to violence if she refused his demands.

Reports suggest Binod returned home around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night, immediately requesting Rs 4,000 from Swapna. When she denied him, his anger flared, leading him to leave the residence temporarily.

According to locals, Binod re-entered the home in the early hours of Sunday after persistently banging on the door, which was opened by his daughter. As Swapna slept, he allegedly began to viciously stab her in the abdomen with a knife, without any warning.

Hearing her cries, neighbors rushed to the house and succeeded in apprehending Binod while he attempted to flee. They then transported the critically wounded woman to Chittaranjan Medical College and Hospital around 5:30 a.m. Unfortunately, she later succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Police were notified of the incident at the Kasba Police Station around 6:30 a.m., and officers quickly arrived at the scene.

Binod was taken into custody and subsequently arrested at the police station. Investigators have begun compiling information regarding the incident from the couple's daughter. Initial findings by the police indicate that the attack stemmed from domestic disputes, although they are exploring whether other motives were involved.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a formal complaint has been filed by Swapna's family.

A relative of the victim informed reporters, "Binod was unemployed while Swapna worked at a local business, sustaining the family's finances. Despite this, he often demanded money from her and would create disturbances at her workplace, which eventually led to her losing her job."

Another neighbor recounted, "Binod returned on Saturday night and once again made a scene over money, insisting on Rs 4,000, which Swapna refused to provide."
