Imphal, March 26 (NationPress) Five hardcore militants were apprehended and a significant cache of arms and ammunition was confiscated in Manipur, as reported by officials on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson revealed that two hardcore members of the banned United National Liberation Front (Koireng faction), who were engaged in extortion activities in the districts of Imphal and Bishnupur, were captured in the Imphal East district within the last 24 hours.

The militants have been identified as Thongam Ronaldo Singh (26) and Khuraijam Micheal Singh (28).

Additionally, two active members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) were arrested from Thangtek Teramakhong in Bishnupur district.

The KCP (PWG) extremists have been named as Wairakpam Jagatchandra Singh (31) and Pebam Romen Singh (28).

These individuals were involved in extortion and had issued monetary demands to a shop, a doctor, an oil station, and a private school in the regions of Imphal West and Nambol.

In their possession, police also confiscated two mobile phones. Furthermore, an active member of the Socialist Revolution Party Kangleipak (SOREPA) was apprehended from Kongba in the Imphal East district for making monetary threats to various government officials.

The arrested individual has been identified as Tayenjam Sanatomba Singh (43).

The seized arms and ammunition consist of one 9 mm pistol with a magazine, one automatic single-barrel gun, three hand grenades with nine detonators, one .303 LMG, 144 live rounds of ammunition, two INSAS LMG magazines, one INSAS rifle magazine, and one radio wireless set.

Moreover, Manipur Police apprehended three drug traffickers involved in the transportation of drugs along National Highway-02 (from Imphal to Senapati district) in Imphal West district on Tuesday night. Police recovered 5.5 kg of heroin valued at Rs two crore from their possession.

The drugs, believed to be smuggled from Myanmar, were contained in 461 soap cases.

With approximately 400 km of unfenced border with Myanmar, the police also seized a large cache of arms and ammunition from Imphal East district.
