New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, T.S. Sandhu, held a meeting with the newly appointed Deputy Leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Rajya Sabha, Ashok Mittal, at Lok Niwas, as confirmed by an official on Friday.

In a social media post, it was stated: “Renowned entrepreneur, Hon’ble MP & Deputy Leader - AAP in Rajya Sabha @DrAshokKMittal, met with Hon’ble @LtGovDelhi, Sardar @SandhuTaranjitS, at Lok Niwas.”

Mittal, aged sixty-one, is a politician with a business background and serves as the chancellor of a private university. He is also part of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance.

This meeting took place amid a significant controversy surrounding Mittal's unexpected promotion to the role of AAP Deputy Leader in the Rajya Sabha, succeeding Raghav Chadha.

The internal discord within AAP became apparent on Friday, as Chadha, who was removed from his position, and other party officials, including Delhi unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj, engaged in a heated exchange of accusations.

Following a video statement from Chadha earlier that day, where he claimed he was being suppressed for voicing public concerns, several AAP leaders countered, suggesting he had capitulated to the central government and was mingling with those in power.

Bharadwaj pointed out various shortcomings in Chadha's performance as an AAP MP from Punjab, emphasizing that political engagement necessitates integrity and bravery.

Mittal, who has celebrated four years in the Rajya Sabha, shared a message on social media on March 30 to commemorate this milestone.

“My four-year journey in the Rajya Sabha has been filled with numerous significant experiences—some challenging, some historic, and some profoundly personal. Throughout this journey, the unwavering support from my fellow parliamentarians has been my greatest asset. Whenever obstacles arose, the encouragement, guidance, and strength from those standing with me were invaluable,” Mittal remarked.
