Union ministers on Tuesday, 9 June 2025 marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 12 years in office by cataloguing the government's record on welfare, infrastructure, financial inclusion and economic empowerment — framing the milestone around the Viksit Bharat vision. The tributes, shared on social media platform X, spanned financial data, physical infrastructure metrics and social-sector outcomes.

Financial Inclusion: The Jan Dhan Numbers

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman anchored her remarks in data. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), more than 58 crore bank accounts have been opened and total deposits have crossed nearly ₹3 lakh crore, she said. Sitharaman described the guiding principle of the past 12 years as 'Jan Seva Se Jan Shakti' — every initiative aimed at empowering citizens through inclusion, innovation and opportunity.

She also highlighted the PM SVANidhi scheme, under which more than ₹18,600 crore has been disbursed through over 1.15 crore micro-loans to support urban street vendors — a constituency rarely at the centre of mainstream economic reporting.

Welfare and Women's Empowerment

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal shared an infographic citing a range of achievements. Over 81 crore people receive free foodgrains every month under the government's Garib Kalyan programme, while more than 4 crore houses have been sanctioned under the PM Awas Yojana, according to Goyal. He also cited the opening of over 32 crore Jan Dhan accounts specifically for women, and the empowerment of rural women through more than 91 lakh self-help groups.

'From Garib Kalyan to women's empowerment, from farmer welfare to creating new opportunities for the youth, from modern infrastructure to national security, 12 years of service have written a new saga of transformation, progress and self-confidence in every sector,' Goyal said.

Infrastructure Milestones

Goyal's infographic also pointed to physical infrastructure expansion: metro rail networks now cover more than 1,100 km across 26 cities, 164 Vande Bharat trains are in operation, and the number of functional airports has grown from 74 to 164. The country has also seen the establishment of over 2.2 lakh startups, he added.

Ministers on Governance and the Road Ahead

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said India had set new benchmarks in development by placing public welfare at the centre of governance. He pointed to progress across infrastructure, the digital revolution, women's empowerment, farmer welfare and global outreach, noting that the trust of 140 crore Indians remained the country's greatest strength and the driving force behind the Viksit Bharat vision.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri described Modi as a leader who views power as a means of service rather than privilege. 'Every moment belongs to the country, every effort is for the country, and every resolve is for India's bright future,' Puri said, adding that the Prime Minister's discipline and ability to translate ambitious goals into reality had helped lay the foundation of a self-confident India.

As the government enters its thirteenth year, the ministers' statements collectively signal that the Viksit Bharat framework — targeting developed-nation status by 2047 — will remain the central political and policy narrative heading into the next electoral cycle.
