Alappuzha (Kerala), Sep 2 (NationPress) – Law enforcement authorities apprehended a 27-year-old woman and mother of two hailing from Karnataka after she reportedly ran away with a 17-year-old male student from Alappuzha approximately two weeks prior, as per police reports on Tuesday.
As stated by the police, the woman has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following her arrest.
She was detained in Kollur, Karnataka, situated about 600 km away from Alappuzha, after allegedly fleeing with the boy, taking her two children along, 12 days ago from their home in Pallippuram, near Cherthala in the district.
The boy's parents had filed a report with the Cherthala police after he failed to return home.
During questioning, the woman claimed that she intended to reside with the boy and had eloped with him, leaving her husband behind. She refrained from using her mobile phone, complicating the police's efforts to locate her.
Upon receiving tips that they might have traveled to Bengaluru, the police conducted searches at multiple locations there, but to no avail. They eventually located them after the woman sent a WhatsApp message from Kollur to a relative in Alappuzha two days ago.
The police alleged that the woman coerced the minor boy into eloping with her.
On Monday, the police escorted them back to Alappuzha, where the woman was remanded in judicial custody at Kottarakkara jail in the neighboring Kollam district after being presented before the First Class Magistrate Court (1) in Cherthala, as per police statements.
The boy was reunited with his parents after their return to Alappuzha on Monday. Authorities have yet to determine if the boy faced any form of abuse during their time in Kollur.
Additionally, it remains unclear how long the affair had been ongoing, with police indicating that the origins of the situation are still under investigation.
