Bhopal, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly held a special one-day session on Wednesday to commemorate the 69th anniversary of its inaugural sitting, focusing on the vision for making the state a developed, self-reliant, and prosperous region by 2047, in line with the national goal of 'Viksit Bharat'.
The session began with a moment of silence to honor the memory of former state Lok Sabha Speaker Shivraj V. Patil, ex-Governor of Mizoram Swaraj Kaushal, past Lok Sabha member Dr. Ramvilas Vedanti, and four members of a bomb disposal squad who sadly lost their lives in a road accident on National Highway 44 on December 10.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav sought blessings from Baba Mahakal for the peace of the departed, while the Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar also conveyed his condolences.
Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar underscored the importance of the session, marking it as the fourth special gathering in the history of the Assembly—preceding ones celebrated the 50th anniversary of Independence, the bifurcation with Chhattisgarh, and a session in 2015 during the tenure of former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
He stressed the necessity for constructive, bipartisan discussions concerning 'Madhya Pradesh Vision 2047' in this technological age, where artificial intelligence presents challenges across various sectors.
Tomar encouraged MLAs to prioritize dynamic development for the state's eight crore residents over the next 25 years.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav presented a resolution aimed at transforming Madhya Pradesh into a developed, self-reliant, and prosperous state, which was met with unanimous approval.
CM Yadav reflected on his administration's achievements over the past two years, including efforts to eradicate Naxalism (declaring farewell to 'Lal Salam' on December 11), dismantling illegal arms factories, and initiatives to create metropolitan cities in Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior.
He announced the commencement of public transport services by April 2026 and commended the significant investments exceeding lakhs of crores.
Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar acknowledged the vision discussion but raised concerns about the government's commitment, demanding assurances on manifesto pledges such as 24-hour electricity, household water supply, Rs 3,000 monthly aid under the Ladli Behna scheme, full labor wages, and measures to prevent MSME closures.
He also sought clarity regarding state debt reduction and revenue enhancement, in addition to advocating for extended sessions and live-streaming.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya supported positive discussions on Madhya Pradesh's role in India's development by 2047, crediting past leaders such as Digvijaya Singh (for IIM Indore), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (for Ladli Behna and Mahakal Lok), and Kamal Nath, while highlighting CM Yadav's accomplishments in investments and infrastructure.
Speaker Tomar allotted seven hours for the day's discussions.
During this special session, Governor Mangubhai Patel inaugurated a photo exhibition showcasing Madhya Pradesh's development journey, achievements over the past two years, and the vision of Viksit Bharat: @2047 within the Assembly grounds.
This exhibition presents rare and memorable photographs that chronicle the seven-decade journey of the Legislative Assembly, illustrating the state's democratic evolution, the aspirations of its people, and pivotal decisions made.
Vijayvargiya shared on his X handle, “...it provides a compelling insight into the government’s public welfare schemes and developmental initiatives, serving as a testament to how democracy, through service, dedication, and progress, continues to enhance the lives of the populace.”
