New Delhi, March 12 (NationPress) Union Minister J.P. Nadda asserted on Thursday that the government will take all essential measures to guarantee the safety of former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah.

In response to the apprehensions voiced by Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge in the Rajya Sabha regarding the recent attack on the veteran politician, Nadda labeled the occurrence as profoundly alarming, stating that the Centre is addressing the situation with the highest urgency.

Kharge remarked, "Today, you may have seen reports that an attack occurred on Farooq Abdullah in Jammu and Kashmir, putting his safety at risk. What has led to such a perilous environment? His security is compromised because Jammu and Kashmir once had statehood, along with local security and police provisions in place."

Highlighting the "revocation of statehood" in J&K, Kharge raised alarms about the insufficient security measures in the region, even as members of the ruling party vocally protested.

"Is the government intent on harming Farooq Abdullah?" the Congress leader inquired.

In response, Nadda stated, "The incident that transpired last night involving a violent assault on senior Jammu and Kashmir figure Farooq Abdullah, who has held the Chief Minister position multiple times, is of significant concern and seriousness. The Government of India is addressing this issue with the utmost seriousness," he emphasized.

Nadda informed the House that an extensive investigation into the incident has commenced, ensuring that all related factors will be meticulously examined.

He assured that a thorough inquiry would be conducted, scrutinizing every possible angle associated with the event.

"Authorities are diligently investigating the matter, and suitable action will follow based on the investigation's outcomes," he affirmed.

Simultaneously, the Union Minister urged the Congress party to refrain from politicizing the incident, criticizing comments that connected the event to the restoration of statehood in Jammu and Kashmir.

He remarked that accusing the government and implying that the attack was linked to the delay in statehood restoration was inappropriate.

"Claiming that this happened due to the lack of statehood restoration and making grave allegations against the government, even suggesting there was a motive to end his life, is utterly condemnable," Nadda stated.

The minister also took aim at the Congress party by referencing the demise of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

"The Congress party has been unable to provide answers regarding the death of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee," he added.

These comments followed an attempted attack on National Conference president Farooq Abdullah during a private gathering on Wednesday evening, where Jammu and Kashmir's Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary was also in attendance.

According to officials, the shooting incident occurred as Farooq Abdullah and other leaders were departing the venue after the event. It remains unclear whether the attack was specifically directed at the VVIPs present.

The suspect has been identified as Kamal Singh Jamwal, who was quickly subdued by security personnel at the venue and taken into custody shortly after.

Senior police officials arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain how the suspect was able to approach the venue and uncover the motive behind the act.
