Hyderabad, Oct 3 (NationPress) A newly constructed Road over Bridge (RoB) was inaugurated for public use near the historic Falaknuma Palace in the Old City of Hyderabad on Friday.
The RoB, which was inaugurated by Hyderabad In-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, runs parallel to the existing RoB.
This infrastructure is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion along the vital route connecting Charminar-Falaknuma Road to Chandrayangutta.
The newly constructed RoB spans 360 meters and was built at a cost of Rs 52.03 crore. It is expected to significantly enhance the commuting experience by cutting down travel time and ensuring a smooth flow of traffic in one of the busiest districts of the Old City.
Furthermore, this bridge will establish connectivity between Chandrayangutta and key areas, greatly benefiting the influx of tourists visiting Falaknuma Palace and Charminar.
It will also provide relief to commuters heading towards Falaknuma, Engine Bowli, Shamsheergunj, Aliabad, Chandrayangutta, and nearby regions.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took four years to complete the bridge over the RoB above the Secunderabad-Falaknuma Broadgauge line.
The construction faced numerous challenges, leading to considerable delays. The proposal for the new parallel RoB was approved by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department back in 2018.
A total of Rs 52.03 crore was allocated for the civil work by GHMC, including railway scope work, utility relocations by the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), as well as for land acquisition.
Notable attendees at the inauguration included AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, MLAs Mohammed Mubeen and Mir Zulfiqar Ali, MLCs Riyazul Hasan Effendi and Mirza Rahmat Baig, along with Greater Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi and GHMC Commissioner R. V. Karnan.
This RoB is a significant addition to the ongoing efforts to alleviate traffic congestion in and around the Old City.
Its inauguration coincides with the accelerated preparatory work for extending Hyderabad Metro Rail connectivity into the Old City.
The state government is currently progressing on the much-anticipated Metro Corridor from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) to Falaknuma.
Recently, Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) announced that land acquisition and the demolition of affected properties along the 7.5 km Old City Metro Corridor have entered a crucial phase.
