Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 on Tuesday, 15 June in New Delhi, launching a three-day national event aimed at deepening youth engagement with India's democratic institutions and governance processes. The event, hosted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, runs from 15 to 17 June 2026.

What the Event Aims to Achieve

The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament is conceived as a movement that channels the energy, ideas, and aspirations of India's youth into the national conversation, according to an official statement. Building on the success of previous editions, the 2026 instalment seeks to give young citizens a hands-on understanding of governance and policy deliberation — moving beyond awareness into active participation.

'The resolutions forged in Central Hall will echo well beyond these three days, inspiring a generation of young leaders to take ownership of India's journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047,' the official statement noted.

Structure of the Programme

The event unfolds across three progressive stages: District Nodal Rounds, State Rounds, and the National Round. The ongoing National Round brings top-performing delegates from all States and Union Territories to New Delhi for the grand finale.

Key activities during the National Round include Opening Remarks, where one representative from each team addresses the House for three minutes on the theme 'Nari Shakti Vandan: Catalysing Inclusivity and Viksit Bharat 2047'. A Question Hour session will also be held, with teams given three minutes to pose questions and an equal duration to respond, as part of building a collective resolution.

Masterclass, Heritage Visits and Awards

An eminent personality will conduct a Masterclass on oratory and public speaking, aimed at sharpening the leadership edge of participating delegates. Participants will also visit the PM Sangrahalaya to explore India's political heritage and leadership legacy, and will receive a walkthrough of the new Parliament building, offering a direct connection to the seat of the nation's democracy.

On the final day, 17 June, the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 Awards will be presented, recognising outstanding contributions by young participants from across the country.

Broader Significance

The initiative reflects a broader governmental push to align India's youth with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision — the target of transforming India into a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. Notably, by routing participation through district and state rounds before the national stage, the format is designed to surface grassroots voices rather than limit engagement to urban centres. How effectively that intent translates into policy influence remains to be seen.
