Pune, April 25 (NationPress) Former Defence Minister and NCP-SP President Sharad Pawar stated on Friday that all opposition parties are united with the central government in the battle against terrorism.

He emphasized that now is not the time to call for anyone’s resignation but to remain united. His comments came a day after the Centre convened a meeting with opposition leaders, particularly in light of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists.

“In the wake of the events in Kashmir, every citizen and political entity should rally behind the government with a unified mindset. We must avoid politicizing this situation and support the government's actions against terrorists. Our party representative, Supriya Sule, participated in the all-party meeting on Thursday, where it was collectively decided that all parties would back the central government. I was pleased to see the cooperative stance taken by all parties,” said Pawar.

“When terrorists strike at India, it is crucial that we set aside political differences. I urge everyone to support the government in its decisions, while also stressing that the government should take the Pahalgam terror attack seriously,” he remarked.

Pawar pointed out that “there was a notion that we had eradicated terrorism and that there was no need for concern anymore. However, there remains a gap that needs to be addressed. If the nation has been attacked, the government must acknowledge this deficiency and act promptly to rectify it.”

He reaffirmed that opposition parties, including himself, are ready to cooperate with the government in this endeavor.

When asked if Home Minister Amit Shah should resign, Pawar stated, “We must focus on identifying those who attacked India and ensuring stringent action is taken against them. Therefore, I won’t call for anyone’s removal at this moment.”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra BJP President and state revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule remarked that politicizing the Pahalgam terror attack is unnecessary.

“The whole country should unite behind the government and empower both the state of Maharashtra and the central government. Unfortunately, some individuals are playing politics,” he commented. “The cowardly assault on tourists in Pahalgam is truly disheartening. Yet, certain individuals are attempting to exploit this incident for political gain. They should stand with the government and offer support to the victims' families,” he said.

“The government is arranging for the safe return of the stranded tourists to Maharashtra. It is tragic that tourists were specifically targeted based on their religion. Such occurrences are unfortunate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are all supporting the families of those who lost their lives or were injured in this attack. The entire nation should stand together,” concluded Bawankule.
