Our Constitution, Our Honor: Karnataka BJP Questions Congress's Authority to Comment on Dr. Ambedkar

Bengaluru, Jan 9 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP, on Thursday, asserted that the amendments made by the BJP are pro-Constitution and pro-reservation, questioning what authority Congress leaders possess to discuss Dr. Ambedkar.
A meeting convened at the BJP state office in Bengaluru was led by state President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra, as part of the 'Constitution Honour Day' and 'Our Constitution, Our Pride' initiative.
This gathering included BJP National General Secretary B.L. Santhosh, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka, Leader of Opposition in the Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, MLC C.T. Ravi, and several others.
Following the meeting, BJP state Vice President N. Mahesh remarked, 'Since the BJP assumed power in 2015, Constitution Day has been commemorated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken on the responsibility of honoring and promoting awareness about the Constitution.'
He further challenged, 'Those who have historically undermined Babasaheb Ambedkar from 1920 until his death, who have insulted and defeated him, what right do they have to comment on Dr. Ambedkar today?'
Mahesh asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP have worked to rectify instances of disrespect towards Dr. Ambedkar, restoring the honor he rightfully deserves.
'Who has amended the Constitution? Who has fortified it? We are communicating this message through our campaign,' he added.
From November 26, the date the Constitution was adopted, to January 26, when it came into effect, a two-month-long awareness campaign is underway. Following district-level initiatives, information is now being shared at the zonal level.
Thus far, 106 amendments have been made to the Constitution, with the BJP responsible for 22 — 14 during the tenure of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and 8 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
'All these amendments were pro-Constitution and pro-reservation, aimed at empowering SCs, STs, and other backward communities,' Mahesh stated.
He challenged Congress leaders to identify a single amendment made by the BJP that was anti-Constitution or anti-SC/ST. In contrast, he noted that Congress enacted 75 amendments.
'In 1951, during a period without an official government, a British-appointed administration enacted the first constitutional amendment under late PM Jawaharlal Nehru. This amendment aimed to restrict freedom of expression to control the media,' he claimed.
Mahesh accused Congress of introducing severe amendments during the Emergency, including the 38th, 39th, 40th, 41st, and 42nd amendments.
'These amendments limited personal freedoms, the right to life, freedom of expression, and judicial independence,' he explained.
He criticized Congress for passing an amendment that granted the Prime Minister immunity from judicial oversight, thereby undermining democracy.
'For 21 months, the Constitution was suspended, and democracy was disrespected. Yet today, Congress leaders speak about the Constitution,' Mahesh concluded.
