PM Modi to Inaugurate Horticulture University Campus in Karnal on December 9

Chandigarh, Nov 28 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the foundation stone for the primary campus of Maharana Pratap Horticulture University in Karnal on December 9, announced Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana on Thursday.

This announcement was made during a ceremony celebrating the foundation day of Maharana Pratap Horticulture University in Karnal, with the presence of Indri MLA and Chief Whip, Ramkumar Kashyap.

While addressing attendees, the Agriculture Minister emphasized that India boasts the most fertile land globally.

"Farmers in both India and Haryana are achieving excellent yields, showcasing the strength and significance of the agriculture sector," he stated.

He underscored that agriculture is regarded as the backbone of the economy, and while other sectors faced challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, agriculture continued to thrive.

The Minister also highlighted that without prioritizing agriculture, addressing unemployment effectively would be challenging. He called for initiatives to elevate agriculture, citing the numerous opportunities available in Haryana's agricultural sector.

Rana mentioned the necessity to advocate for coarse grains, which he believes offer more advantages than wheat. He pointed out that traditional wheat and paddy cultivation is not yielding significant profits for farmers, and the excessive exploitation of natural resources has resulted in severe water scarcity issues in both the country and the state.

Moreover, he noted the rising health concerns related to the prevalent cultivation of wheat and paddy.

"In this context, the Prime Minister is motivating farmers to grow coarse grains, which could alleviate these problems while promoting healthier food choices for the public," he added.

Regarding the university's name, Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap, the Minister stated that he had personally suggested this name.

He highlighted that Maharana Pratap was the first freedom fighter and is esteemed not only in India but worldwide.

Rana expressed optimism that Maharana Pratap Horticulture University would soon become a model institution, both nationally and internationally. He assured that the Haryana government would offer comprehensive support to Maharana Pratap Horticulture University in this endeavor.

During the event, Vice Chancellor Suresh Malhotra provided an extensive overview of the accomplishments of Maharana Pratap Horticulture University.
