New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress sharply criticized Pakistan following remarks from its Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who cautioned that in the event of a future conflict, the nation could target Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Asif also accused India of orchestrating a "false flag operation" against Pakistan.

In a briefing to journalists, Khawaja Asif stated, "They (India) are planning some sort of false-flag operation involving their own personnel or detained Pakistanis, by placing deceased bodies at various locations and claiming they were terrorists responsible for the acts..."

He added, "Should they (India) attempt such a charade again, then, God willing, we will respond with action directed at Kolkata."

Reacting to the statement, Congress MP Manish Tewari remarked that Pakistan has become an expert in false flag operations.

Tewari told IANS, "Since 1971, Pakistan has been executing false flag operations against India, achieving a 'PhD' in this dubious practice that affects not only India but also Afghanistan and other South Asian nations."

He labeled Pakistan as the "epicenter of terrorism," asserting, "If there is a hub for terrorism in South Asia, that is Pakistan."

He further stated, "When those who have perfected false flag operations make unfounded accusations against others, they only expose their own ridiculousness."

BJP Spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo reminded Pakistan of the outcome of last year's Operation Sindoor, which dismantled its terror infrastructure.

"Does Pakistan dare to confront India? During Operation Sindoor, we executed strikes within their territory, obliterating the families of terrorists. We did not spare their military facilities," Deo emphasized.

He maintained that Pakistan had pleaded for a ceasefire, asserting, "We halted the conflict on our own terms."

Additionally, Deo stressed that Kolkata lies beyond Pakistan's reach.

"They (Pakistan) merely make grand claims. Kolkata is certainly out of their grasp. In fact, whenever we wish, we can target any part of their nation (Pakistan)," he stated.

"India is a peace-oriented country and does not seek war. We do not operate on a preemptive attack philosophy, but if anyone dares to threaten us, we will respond with far greater force than during Operation Sindoor," Deo told IANS.

Janata Dal-United leader Neeraj Kumar echoed similar sentiments while condemning Khawaja Asif's statements.

He remarked, "I hope the Defence Minister of Pakistan remembers the devastation caused by Operation Sindoor. Their terror infrastructures were reduced to ashes almost instantaneously. Such statements from the Pakistani Minister are highly objectionable."

Point of View

It's essential to acknowledge the serious implications of Khawaja Asif's statements. The ongoing tension between India and Pakistan requires a nuanced approach, focusing on the historical context of allegations and the necessity for dialogue to prevent escalation. Both political parties in India have articulated their concerns regarding Pakistan's threats, emphasizing the need for vigilance.
