Patna, Jan 3 (NationPress) An offensive statement purportedly made by Girdhari Lal Sahu, spouse of Uttarakhand Minister Rekha Arya, concerning women from Bihar has incited a significant political uproar in the eastern state.
In a widely circulated video, Sahu is allegedly heard claiming that women from Bihar are readily available for marriage for Rs 20,000–25,000. This remark has faced severe backlash from various political factions.
In response to the video's dissemination, political fervor surged in Bihar. IP Gupta, the MLA representing Saharsa and president of the Indian Inclusive Party, declared a reward of Rs 10 lakh for anyone who detains Girdhari Lal Sahu if he sets foot in Bihar.
This proclamation intensified the ongoing controversy.
Leaders from both the ruling coalition and the opposition vehemently condemned the statement.
Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, known as Pappu Yadav, expressed his outrage, stating, “The tongues of such individuals should be severed and discarded. These individuals lack worth. This epitomizes the true character of BJP leaders, who fail to respect anyone outside their immediate family and party.”
Even members of the NDA in Bihar distanced themselves from the comment.
Bihar Minister Dilip Jaiswal also sharply criticized Girdhari Lal Sahu's remarks, asserting, “Just because he is married to a minister, does it give him the right to utter such words? This statement is entirely inappropriate, and we unequivocally condemn it.”
Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi joined in denouncing the comment, labeling it shameful and unacceptable to assign a price to a woman’s marriage, and demanded that the Uttarakhand BJP government take stringent action.
Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, currently vacationing abroad, reacted through social media, targeting the BJP and asserting that such a mentality reveals the true attitudes of BJP leaders towards women and the people of Bihar.
The controversy has now evolved into a cross-state political issue, amplifying pressure on the Uttarakhand government for a decisive response.
This incident has reignited discussions surrounding women’s dignity, responsible speech, and political accountability, particularly among those connected to public officials.
