Key Takeaways
Patna, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Pradesh Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Women’s Cell held a protest march in Patna on Saturday to condemn the inappropriate and disrespectful comments made about the women of Bihar by Girdhari Lal Sahu, who is the spouse of Uttarakhand government minister Rekha Arya and a leader of the BJP.
The protest began at the RJD state office located on Veer Chand Patel Path and made its way to the Income Tax roundabout, where an effigy was set ablaze as a symbol of dissent.
Participants chanted slogans like “Why the insult to the women of Bihar? Narendra Modi, respond!” and “Bihar will not accept humiliation towards women!”
Leading the effigy-burning at the Income Tax roundabout was Anita Bharti, the State Executive President of the RJD Women’s Cell.
Before the march commenced, RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal addressed attendees at the RJD state office, asserting that insults directed at women will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He characterized the protest as a warning to the BJP, indicating that the derogatory comments made by Girdhari Lal Sahu reveal a more profound issue within the party.
RJD state spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed highlighted Mandal’s queries regarding the silence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and senior BJP leaders, including national leaders, regarding this matter.
“Their ongoing silence implies that the BJP is shielding and endorsing individuals who make such remarks. This movement is just the beginning; the women of Bihar will not accept this indignity,” he stated.
A significant number of women leaders and party members were involved in the protest, including RJD spokesperson Sarika Paswan, State General Secretary Mukund Singh, former state president Abha Lata Yadav, and many others.
During the demonstration, Anita Bharti and Sarika Paswan demanded the immediate expulsion of Girdhari Lal Sahu from the BJP.
They also challenged the silence of BJP National Working President Nitin Nabin, questioning the party's commitment to the dignity of women in Bihar.
The leaders reiterated their call for stringent action against Girdhari Lal Sahu for his derogatory remarks and insisted on the dismissal of his wife, Rekha Arya, from the Uttarakhand government, stating that such disrespect towards women is wholly unacceptable.
