Satara, Jan 2 (NationPress) The 99th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (All India Marathi Literary Meet) was formally inaugurated on Friday in Maharashtra's Satara, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in attendance.
While addressing the assembly of authors and thinkers, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of maintaining a distinct separation between the realm of politics and the integrity of literature.
In response to the ongoing discussion regarding the involvement of politics in literary spaces, CM Fadnavis assured the literary community that his government has no intention of meddling in their creative endeavors.
“The Literary Meet acts as a guiding star for society, and the Presidential speech outlines the trajectory for the upcoming year. I wish to make it clear that we will not inject politics into literature. As long as I serve as Chief Minister, I will safeguard against any political intrusion in this sphere,” he stated.
The Chief Minister further encouraged the literary community, saying: “I invite writers to participate in politics, but I implore you to keep politics out of literature.”
Regarding the criticism and the future of the Marathi language, CM Fadnavis praised the efforts of Marathi scholars in enriching the language, asserting that the pride of Marathi will endure as long as “the sun and moon persist.”
Discussing the role of literature in society, he remarked: “Literature is not just for amusement but to elevate social awareness.”
He expressed that he does not take offense at critiques from the literary sector.
“If criticism is constructive, it provides us with a roadmap for improvement. I am not someone who dwells in a delusion thinking I possess all knowledge,” he remarked.
In a moment of candidness, the Chief Minister apologized to the audience for frequently using his mobile phone while seated on the dais.
He explained that the interruption stemmed from urgent political developments occurring simultaneously.
“Today marks the final day for withdrawing nomination papers for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections. There is considerable dissent among all parties, and candidates will not withdraw unless personally persuaded. I was on the phone urging party members to retract their forms,” CM Fadnavis shared.
He humorously noted that despite the distraction, he was “multitasking,” attentively listening to the speeches while managing political emergencies via phone.
