Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Seoul, December 28 (NationPress) President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea is set to commence his inaugural official day at Cheong Wa Dae this week. This follows the relocation of the presidential office back to its former compound in the heart of Seoul, as officials reported on Sunday.
On Monday, Lee will officially start his duties at Cheong Wa Dae, where the ceremonial presidential flag, adorned with two phoenixes, will be hoisted at dawn, according to the presidential office, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.
This event signifies the first return of the presidential office to Cheong Wa Dae since former President Yoon Suk Yeol moved it to the defense ministry compound in May 2022.
The name of the presidential office will revert to Cheong Wa Dae, while Lee's primary workspace will be situated in the Yeomin building complex, rather than the main presidential building.
The Yeomin complex, which accommodates the offices of the presidential staff, is expected to enhance communication between Lee and his officials.
Meanwhile, the main building, renowned for its distinctive blue roof and located approximately 500 meters from the office complex, will primarily host formal events, including summits and credential ceremonies.
On Friday, Lee Jae Myung honored the sacrifices of fallen officers by meeting with their families.
He hosted a luncheon for the families of police officers, firefighters, Coast Guard personnel, and others who lost their lives serving the public during crises and emergencies.
“I’ve frequently heard that few nations can match the safety of ours, a fact attributed to the dedication and hard work of countless public officials,” Lee remarked. “It is due to the selfless courage of those who faced raging flames and tumultuous waves that our citizens can enjoy peaceful lives.”
Lee emphasized that the sacrifices made to safeguard lives must be duly recognized and compensated, asserting this as the government’s duty.
“Our administration will adhere to the principle of offering special compensation for extraordinary sacrifices,” he stated. “I am committed to creating a nation where dedication to the people is honored and rewarded in return for the sacrifices made.”
