Chandigarh, Dec 2 (NationPress) The working President of Punjab BJP, Ashwani Sharma, announced on Tuesday that the party plans to participate in the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections independently.
He criticized the AAP-led Mann government, stating that there has been a total collapse of law and order within the state.
Sharma alleged that following their ascent to power in Punjab in 2022, the Aam Aadmi Party has misappropriated government resources during municipal corporation and nagar council elections to install their mayors and presidents, and now aims to secure the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections in a similar fashion.
Addressing the media prior to the state election committee meeting in Chandigarh, he claimed that the government is distracting the public with nonsensical remarks.
In response to Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema's comments, Sharma pointed out that the government is already recognizing the potential consequences of the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections.
“This is why they are generating unfounded statements in a state of panic to shift public focus,” he remarked.
Sharma questioned the government: “Has it succeeded in maintaining law and order? Are drug cartels and gangsters no longer an issue? Have the commitments made to farmers, laborers, and women been honored?”
He asserted that the AAP government has utterly failed to provide assistance to those affected by recent floods.
According to the BJP working President, the environment fostered in the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decade-long governance has sparked a sense of hope and trust among the people of Punjab.
He emphasized that Punjabis desire an end to drugs, a crackdown on gangsters, strengthened law enforcement, and a guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) for crops akin to those in Haryana.
Sharma claimed to have uncovered illegal mining activities from Pathankot to Fazilka, yet Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has neither acted nor clarified the situation publicly.
“This indicates that for the AAP government, the priority is not Punjab but rather satisfying (Arvind) Kejriwal,” he concluded.
