Has the Punjab govt failed to present its rural report card? BJP Accuses AAP
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Dec 12 (NationPress) Manoranjan Kalia, a prominent leader of the Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a two-time former Cabinet Minister, voiced strong criticism against the AAP government in Punjab on Friday. He stated that the administration has failed to deliver its report card on basic developmental initiatives in rural areas, despite being in power for over three and a half years.
Since the announcement of the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, Kalia noted that AAP ministers and leaders have conducted more than ten press conferences, none of which have focused on rural development.
Instead of presenting their achievements, AAP leaders are resorting to unfounded attacks aimed at distracting the public from pressing rural issues such as water shortages, poor infrastructure, inadequate health services, and stalled development projects.
While addressing the media alongside state media head Vineet Joshi, Kalia emphasized that local body elections serve as a genuine performance audit for any ruling party.
“Ahead of the elections on December 14, the AAP government must communicate to the populace what substantial work has been accomplished for rural Punjab,” he stated.
Issuing a direct challenge to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the BJP leader remarked, “Tomorrow marks the final day of campaigning; let the AAP government identify just one significant achievement for the villages of Punjab.”
Kalia asserted that votes were cast in the name of change and that accountability is crucial.
He further claimed that the AAP government has not fulfilled even a single major manifesto promise, which includes reinstating the Sir Chhotu Ram Rent Act, aiding debt-burdened farmers, providing Rs 10,000 monthly support to laborers after crop losses, depositing Rs 21,000 upon the birth of farmers’ daughters, establishing Aam Aadmi Clinics in every village, and granting Rs 10 lakh education loans to farmers’ children.
Kalia concluded that instead of prioritizing the welfare of rural residents, the AAP government has opted for blame politics over genuine development, resulting in villages being overlooked.
