Bhopal, Jan 27 (NationPress) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to kick off his party's national campaign 'Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan' today in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, which is recognized as the birthplace of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.
Joining him will be the party's national president, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The rally is expected to draw over one lakh Congress supporters, including members of the party's Working Committee (CWC).
Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari expressed optimism about the rally, foreseeing it as a significant event with thousands of party activists set to join from across the state. He mentioned that every Congress member is eager to express their concerns regarding the disrespect shown to Ambedkar from his native place.
The objective of the rally is to uphold people's rights, especially the freedom of expression, and to defend the Constitution, a commitment that Rahul Gandhi has consistently championed,” added Patwari.
This campaign is a strategic move for Congress to escalate its criticism of the BJP, accusing it of dishonoring freedom fighters and compromising constitutional values. The party aims to reinforce its narrative on social justice and regain its footing in Madhya Pradesh.
The campaign will encompass padayatras and rallies across villages, districts, and states, led by leaders at every level—from national to grassroots. Activities such as seminars and public meetings will be organized from one village to the next.
Interestingly, just a day prior to Congress's rally, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav paid homage at Dr. Ambedkar's birthplace on Republic Day, criticizing Rahul Gandhi by stating, “For some, Dr. Ambedkar's birthplace is merely a tourist destination.”
A controversy has emerged regarding restrictions imposed on political speeches at the rally by local authorities, which the Congress party deemed undemocratic.
The sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Mhow stipulated eight conditions for permitting the event, one of which prohibits party leaders from making political speeches or commenting on any religion. The order requires organizers to ensure that no political remarks or comments against religions are made during the event.
This rally marks Congress's first major political event in Madhya Pradesh following a humiliating defeat in the state Assembly elections in November 2023, leading to the replacement of veteran leader Kamal Nath with Jitu Patwari as the new state unit president.
