Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday, 14 May issued a sharp warning to Pakistan, declaring that any hostile action against India would invite consequences “never witnessed before.” Speaking at the unveiling of the statue of Shri Rao Dudaji in Merta, Nagaur district, Rajasthan, Singh reaffirmed India’s “zero tolerance” policy on terrorism and signalled that New Delhi’s response to any provocation would be swift and decisive.

The Warning in Singh’s Own Words

“India has sent a clear message to the world that we maintain a policy of ‘zero tolerance’ against terrorism. If Pakistan attempts to cast an evil eye on us, then what has never happened before will inevitably occur,” Rajnath Singh said at the ceremony.

He further asserted: “If Indian citizens are attacked, we will retaliate even across borders. No boundary can stop India from defending its people.” The remarks come against the backdrop of heightened India-Pakistan tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, to which India responded with Operation Sindoor.

A Decade of Military Transformation

Singh credited the security posture shift to a decade of policy reform under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing it as a “historic and comprehensive transformation” of India’s national security framework. He cited three landmark military actions as proof of India’s evolved doctrine: the 2016 surgical strikes, the 2019 Balakot airstrikes, and the most recent Operation Sindoor.

He emphasised that India does not seek confrontation but will not hesitate to act when sovereignty is threatened. “India does not provoke others, but will respond decisively when challenged,” he said, referencing the nation’s response to the Pahalgam attack as a demonstration of that resolve.

Rajasthan’s Legacy and the Occasion

The Defence Minister’s address was delivered at the statue unveiling of Rao Dudaji, a historical figure revered for his valour and commitment to justice. Singh described Dudaji as a symbol of courage and righteousness whose legacy continues to inspire younger generations.

He also praised Rajasthan’s tradition of military service, noting that families across the state have long contributed soldiers to India’s armed forces. “Rajasthan has always inspired the nation through its traditions of sacrifice, courage and patriotism,” he said.

Chief Minister Sharma Backs Defence Push

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, also present at the event, underscored the role of rapid defence modernisation in building India’s self-reliance. He praised the Indian Army’s performance during Operation Sindoor and said the state government remains committed to preserving Rajasthan’s cultural and historical heritage.

Sharma announced that panoramas honouring eminent historical figures—including Bhamashah, Veer Durgadas, Hadi Rani, and Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, among others—are being developed across the state. He also highlighted infrastructure and water management projects such as the Ramjal Setu Link Project, the Yamuna Water Agreement, and the strengthening of the Indira Gandhi Canal and Gang Canal as progressing rapidly.
