Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) The President of Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday for their request to livestream the Privileges Committee's meeting regarding the 'Faansi Ghar' controversy.
Sachdeva's comments were made ahead of the anticipated appearance of AAP's leader and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal before the Committee on Friday. He is expected to clarify his statement about a shaft within the Assembly grounds being labeled a 'Faansi Ghar'.
According to Sachdeva, the AAP and Kejriwal's claims about the Old Secretariat being referred to as a "gallows" have been thoroughly discredited, leading them to concoct numerous falsehoods to divert attention from their errors.
He further asserted that the demand for live streaming the Privileges Committee meeting is nothing more than a political stunt lacking any constitutional basis.
Sachdeva urged AAP members to question their Congress leadership about why they never identified a 'Faansi Ghar' during their governance from 1947 until 2013, rather than accusing the BJP of dishonoring freedom fighters.
The Privileges Committee includes Chairperson Pradyumn Singh Rajput and members Surya Prakash Khatri, Abhay Kumar Verma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Satish Upadhyay, Neeraj Basoya, Ravi Kant, Ram Singh Netaji, and Surender Kumar.
This issue, initially raised by Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, pertains to the legitimacy of the 'Faansi Ghar' that was inaugurated on August 9, 2022, within the premises of the Delhi Assembly.
The Privileges Committee has been tasked with probing the issue to provide a detailed and procedural evaluation of the events surrounding the inauguration.
Earlier that day, Speaker Gupta cautioned the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi against disparaging the Assembly Committees for "narrow political benefits".
This warning followed Atishi's critical remarks regarding the ongoing inquiry into the 'Faansi Ghar' by the Privileges Committee.
In a formal letter released Thursday, Gupta pointed out that Atishi's unfounded claims during a press conference undermine the impartial and independent operations of the Assembly's Privileges Committee.
Gupta also emphasized that if evidence supporting Atishi's assertion of the existence of a 'Faansi Ghar' within the Assembly is available, it should be presented to the Privileges Committee formally rather than through media channels.
