Vishvas Sarang Critiques Congress for Constitutional Opposition in Madhya Pradesh
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, April 3 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vishvas Sarang has vehemently condemned the Congress party for its stance on the disqualification of Datia MLA Rajendra Bharti. He accused the party of routinely opposing constitutional processes while professing to defend the Constitution.
In a statement from his office at ‘74 Bungalows’ in Bhopal, Sarang remarked: “The Congress has developed a pattern of opposing every constitutional process in our nation. While its leaders loudly declare their commitment to safeguarding the Constitution, they simultaneously undermine it in their attempts to protect corrupt individuals.”
Sarang noted that the Congress state president Jitu Patwari sought to defend a corrupt individual by entering the Legislative Assembly through an “unconstitutional means”.
He underscored that the issue concerning Datia MLA Rajendra Bharti is not about politics but rather a matter of corruption.
“This corruption case does not originate from the period of the BJP government but dates back to when the Congress party was in power,” he emphasized, referring to the time when Digvijaya Singh served as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
The minister’s comments followed the Congress party's strong denunciation after Bharti was disqualified due to his conviction in a 28-year-old cooperative bank fraud case by a Delhi court.
In a related note, BJP State President and MLA Hemant Khandelwal characterized the situation as entirely judicial, devoid of any political affiliation.
“The court has acted based on the evidence presented. All political parties—whether BJP or Congress—should respect this ruling,” he stated, affirming that the BJP stands firmly behind the court's decision and will comply with its directives.
Khandelwal clarified that the authority regarding the termination of membership or by-elections lies with the Election Commission of India and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, and decisions will be made strictly according to constitutional protocols.
“The allegations from the Congress party are unfounded. This entire matter falls under the jurisdiction of the judiciary and constitutional institutions. The BJP has no direct involvement in this judicial process,” Khandelwal added.
Both leaders asserted that the disqualification stems purely from a legal and constitutional standpoint, resulting from the court’s order dated April 2, 2026, and the subsequent notification from the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
This situation has heightened the political discourse in the state, with the ruling BJP calling for respect towards judicial decisions while the Congress accuses the government of selective urgency.
