Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Dibrugarh, Jan 30 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticized Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday, accusing him of disregarding the rich culture and traditions of the Northeast by not donning a traditional gamosa during the President's 'At Home' reception on Republic Day.
Speaking at a public rally at the Khanikar Parade Ground in Dibrugarh, Shah emphasized that the gamosa was a token of honor presented by President Droupadi Murmu to the guests at the reception.
He noted that every attendee, including international delegates, embraced the traditional Assamese attire, with the exception of Rahul Gandhi. "Rahul Gandhi was the only one who refused to wear the gamosa. This is not merely an affront to Assam, but to the entire Northeast," asserted Shah, stating that such actions reveal a blatant disrespect for the region's cultural legacy.
The Union Home Minister firmly declared that while individuals are free to make personal choices, the Bharatiya Janata Party will stand against any denigration of Northeast culture.
"Under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party, no one will be permitted to insult the identity and customs of this area," he stated.
Shah also took aim at the Congress party regarding its governance in Assam, accusing them of neglect during their rule.
"What has Congress provided Assam aside from guns, bullets, prolonged conflict, and the tragic loss of so many young lives?" he questioned.
Touching upon the subject of illegal immigration, Shah claimed that the Congress party exploited the issue for electoral gain.
He highlighted a transformation since the BJP assumed power in Assam, stating that illegal infiltration has been effectively controlled since then.
"Those who have entered the country unlawfully will be identified and expelled," the Union Home Minister reaffirmed.
