Chennai, May 13 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu chapter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed its approval of the Coimbatore Mahila Court's ruling that sentenced all nine individuals involved in the Pollachi sexual assault case to life imprisonment until death, branding it a pivotal achievement in the quest for justice.
State BJP president Nainar Nagendran praised the decision as a “historic moment” that aims to restore confidence in the legal system.
“The court's ruling to convict all nine defendants in the Pollachi case - a tragedy that shattered the lives of many women and appalled the conscience of Tamil Nadu - is profoundly reassuring. This verdict conveys a strong message that offenders of such atrocious acts will face justice,” he stated.
Nagendran further emphasized that this judgment would motivate survivors to come forward and report crimes without hesitation.
“As incidents of violence against women and POCSO cases continue to rise, this ruling acts as a stern warning to potential offenders,” he noted.
Senior BJP figure and former Puducherry Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan referred to the court's ruling as the “dawn of a new era of justice”.
She remarked, “The women who were treated like delicate flowers, only to be crushed and discarded, have finally received justice today. Let this ruling obliterate any thought of violating women's dignity.”
BJP national council member and former state president K. Annamalai also praised the verdict, acknowledging the bravery and determination of the survivors.
“I hope this judgment provides some comfort to the victims who struggled for six long years. I urge the state government to ensure prompt justice in all cases of sexual violence,” he said.
The Pollachi sexual assault case, which came to public attention in 2019, involved a group of men accused of blackmailing and sexually assaulting numerous women.
The case, initially scrutinized by local law enforcement, was later transferred to the CBI following public pressure.
