Kolkata, March 6 (NationPress) The Trinamool Congress will commence a door-to-door survey this weekend aimed at detecting fake voters on the state's electoral roll. This initiative was agreed upon during the inaugural meeting of the party's internal core committee, established last month to scrutinize the voters' list in West Bengal and identify fraudulent entries.
The survey will be carried out at the block level in rural locales and at the ward level in urban and metropolitan areas, focusing on five key areas.
Firstly, the team will identify voters whose names are improperly included on the voters' list of West Bengal.
The second focus will be on uncovering instances where two different names are registered under a single EPIC number.
The third point involves forming distinct teams to engage with voters at each polling booth to ensure the survey's utmost accuracy.
The fourth emphasis is on compiling a separate list of genuine and surviving voters whose names might have been removed from the electoral roll for various reasons.
Lastly, the fifth focus will be a special examination of voters who have registered online.
In addition, during the first meeting of the core committee, every member has been assigned the responsibility of overseeing the survey activities in three districts. The committee members are also encouraged to make extensive visits to their respective districts for personal supervision of the review process.
According to veteran Trinamool Congress leader and head of the party's Parliamentary team in the Lok Sabha, Sudip Bandopadhyay, the leadership is taking this matter very seriously due to suspicions regarding potential actions by the BJP ahead of the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections next year.
“They attempted similar tactics during the assembly elections in Delhi and Maharashtra. However, they should know that their efforts in West Bengal will not succeed,” Bandopadhyay stated.
This sentiment was echoed by party leader and West Bengal fire services minister Suit Bose, who asserted that the party will strive diligently to guarantee an error-free voters' list.
