Trinamool Congress to Stage Protests on December 23 Against Amit Shah's Comments on Ambedkar: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, Dec 20 (NationPress): The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, announced on Friday that the Trinamool Congress will conduct protest rallies at both the block and ward levels on December 23 in response to the recent comments made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah concerning Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

Banerjee pointed out that Ambedkar dreamed of a nation founded on the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, where individuals from all classes, castes, creeds, and communities could coexist peacefully. In her statement, she remarked: "This is not merely an insult to Babasaheb but an affront to the entire Drafting Committee of the Indian Constitution, an attack on the legacy left by our freedom fighters, and a betrayal of our Dalit and Adivasi communities."

"To voice our dissent, we will hold protest rallies throughout all blocks of Bengal and in every ward of Kolkata on December 23, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. I urge everyone to unite with us in this struggle to safeguard Babasaheb's legacy and the spirit of our Constitution. Let us come together to hold the BJP accountable for their unforgivable actions," she added.

Banerjee, who also leads the Trinamool Congress, accused the BJP of systematically undermining the constitutional values of the country and "fragmenting the democratic principles that unify us as a nation."

She asserted that the comments made about Ambedkar exemplify the BJP's culture of hatred and intolerance.

Interestingly, the Union Home Minister was present in West Bengal on Friday to speak at a program in Siliguri, located in the Darjeeling district, commemorating the 61st Raising Day of the Sashastra Seema Bal.

In fact, the Chief Minister has been vociferous regarding Shah's recent comments about Ambedkar. On Thursday, during two separate occasions related to the upcoming Christmas festival, she expressed her shock over the remarks made about Ambedkar.

Earlier, on Wednesday, she released a statement asserting that as the Indian Parliament reflected on 75 years of the Constitution, the Union Home Minister chose to tarnish this milestone with derogatory statements about Ambedkar, and that "especially in the temple of democracy."
