Mamata Banerjee Criticizes Amit Shah for Remarks on Ambedkar

Kolkata, Dec 18 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee harshly condemned the BJP on Wednesday over the remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding B.R. Ambedkar, asserting that this is a clear indication of BJP’s casteist and anti-Dalit attitude.

In her Facebook statement, she noted that while the Indian Parliament commemorated 75 remarkable years of the Constitution, the Union home minister opted to mar this significant occasion with insulting comments about Ambedkar, particularly in what she referred to as the temple of Democracy.

“This is a clear manifestation of BJP’s CASTEIST and ANTI-DALIT mindset. If their conduct is like this after being reduced to 240 seats, one can only imagine the harm they would have caused if their aspiration for 400 seats had been achieved. They would have rewritten history to completely eliminate Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions,” the Chief Minister stated.

She further expressed that the Union Home Minister’s comments were a direct insult to the millions who regard Ambedkar as a source of guidance and motivation. “But what can one expect from a party that has embraced hate and bigotry?” she posed.

Mamata Banerjee referred to Ambedkar as the “Father of the Indian Constitution” and emphasized in her statement that such an outrageous comment is not merely an attack on him but on all members of the Constitution Drafting Committee, which represented India’s diversity with participants from various castes, creeds, ethnicities, and religions.

Earlier that day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a strong critique against the Congress party, accusing it of employing every possible tactic to erase Dr. Ambedkar's legacy and to demean the SC/ST communities.

PM Modi's comments were prompted by the Congress's call for the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah, who they claimed had disrespected Dr. Ambedkar during his speech in the Rajya Sabha.

In a series of posts on X, PM Modi criticized the Congress, alleging that the party has a long-standing history of undermining Ambedkar’s contributions.
