Kolkata, May 20 (NationPress) A five-member delegation from the ruling Trinamool Congress of West Bengal is set to travel to Jammu & Kashmir starting Wednesday to assess the current circumstances following the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam last month, along with the artillery fire from Pakistan affecting border communities.
The team comprises four Rajya Sabha members and one state minister. The Rajya Sabha MPs include Trinamool leader Derek O’Brien, Nadimul Haque, Mamata Bala Thakur, and Sagarika Ghose, with Manas Ranjan Bhunia representing the state.
The delegation will arrive in Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday and will remain until May 23. "Their itinerary includes visits to key locations such as Srinagar, Poonch, and Rajouri. They aim to interact with local residents to understand their living conditions amidst the ongoing challenges of terrorism and cross-border fire," stated a senior party official.
The initiative follows directives from party leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also selected the delegation members and their planned destinations.
Upon their return, the delegation will submit a comprehensive report to the Chief Minister.
However, no delegation member has publicly commented on their schedule, adhering to strict party directives that discourage discussions regarding the Pahalgam incident or Operation Sindoor.
It has been made clear that any official statements on these matters will exclusively come from the Chief Minister.
Earlier today, the Chief Minister appointed party General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee as Trinamool's representative in the multi-party delegations concerning Operation Sindoor, replacing cricketer-turned-politician Yusuf Pathan, who was initially designated by the Centre.
